Warrior Brings a Warrior Home!

Meet Laibi Oinam, Manipur's First Woman Auto DriverAmidst the corona crisis and all the unfortunate events that followed, the ones who contracted the virus and survived were the warriors. However, there were some who not just volunteered, but came forward with whole heart to help the country in their best possible way. Such are the real ‘Warriors’. Laibi Oinam was one such example. An auto driver from Manipur, she drove a corona recovered patient from Imphal hospital to Kamjong district on June 11. It took her at least 8 hours to drive the person to the district 100 km away. The ambulance service of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal had refused to take the patient back home as she belonged from another district. However, Laibi Oinam tirelessly drove during the intervening night of May 31 and June 1 to drop the recovered patient, who had reportedly returned from Kolkata. N Biren, Chief Minister of Manipur honoured the auto driver on June 11 and also awarded her with cash prize of 1,10,000/- saying that she is a true example of ‘service over self’ amid the deadly virus outbreak.

Netizens in large numbers found Oinam’s action inspiring and called her a ‘true hero’. In addition to lauding her efforts during this time of global crisis, some even found this gesture of Biren appreciating and hailed him for being dynamic. With all the resources that she had to offer at that time, many twitter users expressed their gratitude for such a volunteering action of Oinam.
